Recently, I was gifted this beautiful lilac watch from Swatch from my father right out of it’s origin, Switzerland. I love it, but I didn’t really know how much I loved it until I conducted some research on it. Below is a snippet from Swatch’s history via http://swatch.com
“The story of Swatch is the story of a revolution. In 1983, the unexpected appearance of an affordable, Swiss made, plastic (!!) watch turned the watch world upside down. Suddenly, a watch was much more than a way to measure time. It was a new language, a way to speak from the heart without words. A Swatch watch was an expression of joy, a provocative statement, a warm smile delivered with a flick of the wrist. Today, the revolution continues: Swatch talks, and everyone understands.”
This made me think, how I realized without realizing, I am a collector of watches. I have so many beautiful watches, of high and low quanities, but they all mean so much to me, and it’s true, they don’t just give us the gift of time, but they give us a way of expression too. My varied watches appear on my wrist, with my varied styles, I wear it as a way to express myself and the image I am portraying that particular day.
This watch (above photo) is a great accessory to sport, when on the slopes, out for a hike, or anything of sporty atmosphere. It really fits well into my ever-changing lifestyle of fashion, function and fun. Not to mention, it is the perfect purple, and it is versatile too, with it’s bracelet-like appearance.
Below are a few photographs of some skiers at the Swatch Skiers Cup.
