At 6 pm, on Wednesday,
October 9th people were lining up to get their seats into Vancouver’s most
prominent trend: Eco Fashion. This fashion week was held inside a brisk ice
rink, none other than Robson Square.
Once everyone was seated,
Myriam LaRoche, president of Eco Fashion Week stepped onto the catwalk and
thanked everyone for coming. She was adorned in a grey ensemble, complete with
blazing red tights.

Introduced was the first
collection of the night: Hey Jude, by Lauren Clark and Lyndsey Chow. The
designers captured quite a few classic trends. There were sheath-like thin
cotton skirts and dresses (think Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2008) layered under
sheer clean blouses in black. Cropped shirts were seen, delicate lines
throughout, very minimal usage of colours; maroons, reds, whites, and blacks to
mimic the era of the 40s. Easy music was played throughout, to accentuate the
simple cuts of the designs on the catwalk. Cape like jackets engulfed the
slender models, acrylic knits with rolled up sleeves paired with sleek,
straight skirts took hold of the collection, with black as the main colour used
throughout.

With the second collection of
the night, My Sisters Closet by Farah Larki and Melanie Cookson came onto the
TV screen explaining their cause: to bring beautiful clothes to the community
while raising funds. With such a gripping purpose, came a loud bolt of
excitement with Joan Jett’s I love Rock N Roll single blaring on the speakers.
The vibe changed from somber, to lively in a few minutes flat. The designers
projected a rocker chic persona with their looks, complete with school girl plaid
miniskirts circa Britney Spears 1999, with black lustrous over-the-knee boots, simple
shirts and fiery red lips. There was a vibe of the 70s with Betsey Johnson
pinks, iridescent grey blues, and polka dots. The looks were bad girl staying
bad, rocking leather, ripped denim, and a ‘don’t care’ attitude. The looks
inspired by rock n roll’s very own bad girls: Joan Jett and Blondie.

On the males’ side, it was
about 1983’s The Outsiders. With leather jackets, ripped faded denim, and dusty
blues used throughout. There was also the use of pin stripes seen on a tuxedo
style suit jacket with v shaped necklines to create a modern look.

This was a show to be seen;
there is no doubt these looks won’t keep coming back for more.
