A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending Vancouver TheatreSports League’s new show, Oh, Canada – The True North Strong and Funny. And boy was it a good time. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much all summer, I forgot how good it felt to really give a good chuckle.

The show runs Thursday to Saturday evenings at VTSL until September 2, 2017. To keep true to TheatreSports shtick, no one show is the same as the show is improvised. This was my first improvised comedy show and it’s definitely not going to be the last. I was very impressed with how much talent (and quick wit) the cast had.
Upon arrival, we were met with a wilderness set complete with the cast clad in plaid—what else? Pretty Canadian, eh? Our host came out with a canoe attached to his waist, (in true Canadian fashion, duh). He immediately got the show off to a roaring good start.
The show unfolded with a myriad of scenes featuring Canadian stereotypes with hilarious twists to boot. What I loved was how much they got the audience involved, so much so, that my sister volunteered her job and they took to creating a (hilarious) scene out of it. Her job, you may ask? Figure skating coach, and yes they ran with that stereotypical Canadian job and made us laugh so hard we were in tears.
During intermission, the fun didn’t stop there, we were asked to write down what we loved most about Canada and the cast run with that for the second half. Funny doesn’t even cut it. So good.
I highly recommend this comedy show here in Vancouver, if you’re new to the city, it’s a great way to alleviate some stress and if you have family or friends coming to visit, you better get some tickets.
Thanks for a great time, TheatreSports, I’ll be back!
