Your morning commute is filled with opportunity to get things done. I know how tempting it can be to scroll aimlessly on Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook but I find it’s the perfect time of day to get a bit of work done. Continue reading for some tips on how to make the most of your morning commute.
Emails
Get some emails done, you may not get to inbox zero but you’ll likely get through a few before your stop. I like to read through some emails while I’m commuting, even if I don’t necessarily reply to them. It’s nice to prepare myself for what lays in my inbox when I get to my computer.
Read
Have you set a goal to read more this year? Your commute should be the perfect opportunity to get a chapter or two in. Personally, this is my favourite time to read, I love being ‘offline’ during my commute and getting lost in a good book. I’m currently reading Harry Potter and find it’s the perfect escape before I start my day.
Listen to podcasts
I’m a huge fan of podcasts because I’m getting value in while I’m on the go. It’s a great way to switch it up from listening to music. My favourite podcast that I listen to daily is The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast. Lauryn and Michael talk about all things entrepreneurship, offer amazing daily tips and have incredible guest speakers. Highly recommend.
Create to-do lists
I used to do this all the time when I was on my way home from University. I’m a bit old school, so I still write everything down in my notebook or agenda, but I know plenty of people who use the app Evernote and swear by it. This is a great way to start your day at the office off right. Get those priorities in order before you head out to meetings.
Work on your side gig
I’ve heard of tons of people who write blog post drafts and save them on their notes and transfer them to their computer late on. Successful people use their commute time to work on their own projects. Don’t waste that hour-long commute, figure out a way to get a bit done. You can even schedule social media if you have your own company or shop. I love using the app Hootsuite.

Sometimes I wish I lived where I could actually commute and get things done. I think I’d listen to podcasts more often than not though because reading in something that moves tens to make me car sick. Yay for reading Harry Potter!!

I think listening to podcasts is a great idea because you can gradually wake your brain up but still do something quite relaxing before you get into work mode! Loving your coat in these pictures by the way.

I love that jacket! I agree – podcasts and audio books are the best! I run my business from home, so there’s not a lot of commuting for me, but they’re wonderful for long road trips with the family!
