With the summer season here (and going by fast, unfortunately) I am trying to take it all in and focus on the things that make me happy and improve both the quality of my life and state of mind. Continue reading for some ways how to improve the quality of your life too.
1. Reading
When I have spent a bit too much time in front of the screens (or my iPhone lets me know thanks to their weekly screen time report) I know it’s time to pick up a book. For me, I prefer reading physical copies of books, but I know many people who love using a Kindle (and if it means they’re reading more then that’s great!) Lately, I have been trying to focus on reading different kinds of books and articles. I love learning and find broadening my horizons has been so positive.
2. Playing Games
Playing games is great for exercising your mind and de-stressing. I have recently been using the website https://www.solitaire.org/ and have been loving it. Fun fact: I grew up playing Solitaire so it’s very nostalgic for me to play this game, and I forgot how much I love it. The Solitaire website has a huge selection of games to choose from. While it primarily focuses on Solitaire, you can choose from an assortment of cards, mah-jong, hidden object games, and more. As mentioned, I love playing Solitaire, but I also tried out some of the Hidden Object games which I found so much fun. In particular, I played the Pirates and Treasures Hidden Object game and loved it. There are tons of different Hidden Object themes to choose from. I love that they aren’t too difficult and it’s a beautiful way to visually immerse yourself in a different world.
3. Exercise
I admit that I don’t stick to a strict workout routine, but when I do get a chance to work out, whether it’s going on the treadmill or walking my dog, it makes such a difference. For me, working out helps me get my mind off what is stressing me out and gives me a break from my phone and the constant notifications. I don’t really care how I move my body but as long as I do, I feel so much better.
4. Getting out in Nature
This might sound cliché, but I really think spending time outdoors is so beneficial to the quality of your life. Whether it’s going to the beach and being present in the moment or going for a hike or even gardening, I feel better. There is something about being outside and enjoying the beauty that is all around us that feels so therapeutic and puts things into perspective. Plus, it’s an instant mood booster for me.
5. Spending time with your support system
While I enjoy spending time alone, I am definitely a social person. I love spending time with my family and friends and feel so fulfilled when I am around my support system. Recently, we had a reunion with some family members who we haven’t seen since before the pandemic, and it made me so happy and grateful to be around them and catch up. It’s a great reminder to do it more often.
