Ahhh, Coachella. What began as a music festival in the valleys of California has since evolved into a be-seen event where your outfit is one of the most important parts of your attendance. No other music fests have this extreme fashion component, and that’s what has made Coachella skyrocket in popularity over the last few years. Some may say that the celebrity attendees are to blame. Given that the festival is held just two-and-a-half hours away from Los Angeles, many A-listers have been spotted roaming the festival grounds in the chicest bohemian getups, inspiring the rest of the festival-goers to put their best fashion forward.
In addition to the fashion, the artist lineup is a huge factor in the festival’s success. With all kinds of artists playing, there’s something for everyone over the course of the three days. This year, the Coachella lineup includes Ellie Goulding, Of Monsters and Men, Purity Ring, Sufjan Stevens, Disclosure, A$AP Rocky, CHVRCHES, Sia, Sames Bay, Miike Snow, The 1975, and Flame, among many, many others. As for the headliners? This year, you’ll see LCD Soundsystem, Guns N’ Roses, and Calvin Harris—an eclectic mix sure to delight all kinds of music lovers.
So what do people wear to Coachella? Like I mentioned above, bohemian chic style is truly the most prominent look seen on celebrities and other attendees as well. E-Online notes how Vanessa Hudgens is one of the most well-known bohemian babes always spotted at the fest. In 2013, she wore a jeweled crop top, tie-dye maxi skirt with a high slit, and a large, flowing scarf around her head. Other celebs spotted at Coachella include Julianne Hough, the Kardashian and Jenner sisters, Kate Bosworth, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lea Michelle, Lauren Conrad, Emma Watson, and the list goes on.
The wide brim hat has become somewhat of a staple at Coachella with its recent rise in trendiness and its usefulness as an actual sun-blocker in the Cali heat during long days of shows. Another go-to for Coachella style is anything with lace, fringe elements, or floral prints. The last of those three has been on display lately at Woman Within, where you can also see photos of the prints in the wild to give you a better feel for how to wear them.
Although many of us experience extreme FOMO during Coachella—what with all the Instagrams and celeb snapshots—that doesn’t mean you can’t embrace Coachella fashion in your everyday style. When it comes down to it, Coachella is just a reason to wear an extremely boho chic outfit. There is no reason not to wear the style during other spring and summer events! In fact, many of the elements are the same as those we incorporate into our spring and summer wardrobes anyways. Fringe, lace, and floral? Try to tell me you don’t already wear those in your everyday life.
Coachella fashion is a perfect reminder that fashion is meant to be fun, and putting together whimsical outfits is a right you should practice more often. Now get to it!
