I had the pleasure of traveling to the Okanagan (BC’s wine country) and had the most incredible time. Not only had I not been for a year, but I got to take my mum (photographer) along too. Continue reading for my guide to a quick girls getaway to the beautiful Okanagan, BC.
First, we checked in at the stunning lake front property, Watermark. This resort is one of the Okanagan’s leading destination resorts, and for good reason, it’s situated right on the water and overlooks the beautiful mountains. This resort is actually rated number one in the Okanagan.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with a delicious platter of fresh smoked salmon, an assortment of olives and the perfect white wine to pair with from Orofino Vineyards.
The suites at Watermark are gorgeous, we were lucky enough to stay in a beautiful townhouse which was steps away from the lake. Complete with gourmet kitchens, a wine fridge (yes, please) and a lovely terrace, our accommodations were incredibly beautiful (and spacious) too.
The staff at Watermark were very accommodating too, they had a wealth of information for us and were always in the best of spirits. If you’re looking for someone to stay in the Okanagan, I highly recommend Watermark, being just steps away from the water is such a nice bonus and the suites are to die for.
Next, we hit up some of the wineries along the way (there are so many and it was hard to choose which ones to pop into). We went into Church and State Wines and I found the coolest bottle of wine (it says Killin’ It – hard to see in the photos because it was so bright).
Watermark also has the nicest pool, it overlooks the lake and the mountains – an unbeatable combination. They have a hot tub too and even a slide.
Just to show you how close the water was to our townhouse, it was literally like steps away.
The next day, we went to the beautiful Liquidity Winery which is in the Okanagan Valley. The winery is award winning, and state-of-the-art complete with a bistro.
As you can see, the view is incredible, Liquidity is set amongst rows and rows of vineyards. 100% of Liquidity wines are estate grown and hand harvested. What I really love about this winery is they use sustainable and time-tested viticultural practices to provide the finest growing environment for their vines.
Like I said, they have a bistro too. The bistro is truly beautiful, there is a water feature which I’m sitting in front of and the background is mountains and vineyards galore. You honestly feel like you’re on top of the world.
The bistro offers a modern urban take on classic Canadian wine country cuisine. The seasonal menus combine the produce from their local farmers and purveyors with select ingredients from the on-site garden. Liquidity Bistro is actually ranked as one of the Top 100 Restaurants in Canada, and one of the Top 100 for Outdoor Dining. I’m not surprised because the food is just as incredible as the view.
I tried the amazing Grilled Albacore Tuna dish, it was so flavourful, the vegetables and potatoes went so well with the fish. All of the flavours intermingled perfectly.
My mum had the Thin Crust Flatbread with rustic tomato sauce, basil, prosciutto and mozzarella. Talk about delicious.
For dessert, I ordered the Raspberry Soup (so good and not too sweet) and my mum ordered the Summer Fruits Clafoutis which was also amazing. The bistro’s attention to detail is something to be awarded, with their incredible dishes and amazing staff, what’s not to love.
After our lunch, we had a wonderful wine tasting at the winery. Liquidity has a neat background because it’s actually been growing and selling award winning grapes for over 20 years, until they finally decided to make their own. The property has 30 acres under vine and the ages of their plants range from over 20 years for some blocks of their Pinot Noir, Chardonnay (my favourite) and Pinot Gris to newly planted Riesling in 2014.
There were so many wines that I loved at Liquidity Winery, but a few that really stood out to me were:
- Liquidity Bubbly (a lovely dry bubbly with a dash of Granny Smith apple, pink grapefruit, melon and a hint of white pepper).
- Rose (this was the rose we had at lunch which was the perfect pairing for our meals)
- Chardonnay Estate (perfect to pair grilled salmon with, with aromas of citrus fruit, cantaloupe, pear, hazelnut and creme brulee.)
So, if you’re ever looking for somewhere to eat an incredible meal that’s local and fresh, I highly recommend Liquidity Bistro and afterward, go for a tasting at their award winning winery.
On the way home, we stopped for some fresh fruit (there is so many cute fruit stands along the way).
Thanks for the best time, I’ll be back!
