Every fall, I like to do something to celebrate the new season. Usually, I go to the pumpkin patch (see last year’s post here), but this year I checked out the Taves Family Farm to go apple picking for the first time. Continue reading for my thoughts on why this should be on everyone’s fall bucket list.
Taves Family Farm is a huge property and there is so much for everyone to do. There’s even a pumpkin patch which I think we’ll be going to next month, amongst hayrides, and even an observation beehive. I loved getting to see the animals at their petting barn, we were greeted by the cutest baby goats and it was adorable.
Taves Family Farms lets you u-pick apples, I loved this because it really got me into the spirit of fall and pie making season. The apples were so tasty, fresh and sweet. We picked Gala apples and even treated ourselves to a caramel apple afterward which I’m still thinking about.
Among a variety of activities offered, there are tons of fresh snacks to munch on. Some of these snacks include freshly-roasted and buttered corn-on-the-cob. Of course, they have delicious homemade apple cider which is just the right sweetness.
We chose the perfect day to go to the apple barn. It was a beautiful warm September day with a mild breeze, so my outfit felt very on point. I’m so glad I wore my Sorel rain boots. I’ve made the mistake of wearing white sneakers to a farm before. These were perfect, and they have a little heel on them which I like for extra height—good for apple picking hehe.
Amongst the apple barn in Abbotsford, there are so many things to do in this wonderful city. Last week I even got to experience Abbotsford from above with Compass Heli Tours who flew us in a helicopter. Such a wonderful experience. After departing, we got to enjoy Abbotsford’s lovely local scene complete with the most beautiful venue supplied by Eco Dairy which is the first demonstration farm of its kind in Canada.
I’m a huge advocate for supporting local, and Nature’s Pickins Market was right near our venue, such lovely employees and the most delicious local produce. Of course, what’s a party without some delicious local brew & bites, right? Field House Brewing was there to show off their tasty craft beer (I loved the raspberry flavour) among Old Abbey Ales too.
Another local fave of mine was the Ripples Winery, this winery creates only organic wines made with blueberries. So good. I can’t believe how much detail goes into these incredible companies, so impressed.
If you’re ever in Abbotsford and you’re looking for some good grub, definitely check out Restaurant 62, they are the longest standing fine dining restaurant in the history of the Fraser Valley. And for good reason to, because they have the most delicious dishes. Their dishes change with the seasonal availability of the local producers, nothing like some good local food.
Thank you to everyone who made my experience at Taves Family Farms and in Abbotsford so amazing.
