It’s very important to keep your dog healthy, especially from the inside out. I’m sure you all know by now how much my dog Bella means to me. Read on for 5 ways to keep your dog healthy from the inside out.

Always Have a Full Water Bowl
It’s important to make sure your dog stays hydrated especially on those warmer days. My dog was being very disagreeable when it came to drinking enough water this summer, so I ended up having a water bowl in every room to make sure she was getting enough. Also, make sure to change the water bowl daily and look for things like dog hair in the bowl. It’s important they have clean, cool water at their disposal.
-
Feed them a High-Quality Pet Food
I always make sure to do as much research as possible when it comes to my dog’s pet food. She’s getting older and therefore pickier, so I always make sure to get a recipe I know she will like. Lately, she’s been enjoying the Purina ONE® SmartBlend Lamb & Rice Adult Dry Dog Food. She was already a fan of Purina ONE® (and so am I) because of all the benefits. Every ingredient has a purpose and it’s formulated with high-quality real meat, poultry or fish which helps support strong muscles and a healthy heart. What I especially love about Purina ONE® is their products come in formulas for all life stages—including my senior pup.

Exercise Regularly
Just like us, your dog needs daily exercise. Get some exercise for both yourself and your dog and head outdoors for some fun. You can easily get exercise even if you’re loaded with work commitments because you can take your pet for a walk or run in between tasks. It’s a great way to break up your day and bond with your dog. What I like to do is in between photo shoots, we will take Bella for a walk and she is happy to wait until the photos are done. It’s a great way to get things done and keep your pup happy.
-
Give Them Space
Dogs like to have their own space just as much as humans do. They’re den animals and like to have space just for them. If you’re not into using kennels (we don’t because Bella doesn’t like it), then get your dog a dog bed, place it somewhere you think they’ll like (ours is in the bedroom near the closets) and set them up for success (and a good sleep).
-
Play with Your Pup
Not only will your dog be happy if you play with them, but it’s been known to reduce stress in humans. Always make time for your pet, even if your dog doesn’t like to fetch (mine doesn’t), then think of some other creative ways to make them happy. Dogs are companion animals and crave their owner’s attention. Play fetch, roll over, shake a paw, hide and seek, those are just some of the many ways to play with your pet. Also, don’t forget to pet them regularly—they love it and it has been proven to reduce anxiety in humans.

Bella is so cute! My pup absolutely loves her kennel. I have dog beds in other rooms for her, but she always likes to create her own space in each room, too. I think she looks for spaces that remind her of her kennel, so she likes to hang out under chairs or side tables. This morning I found her curled up on a blanket I had shoved under the bench for my vanity to push it out of the way.

Excellent tips and beautiful dog! Hubby and I have 3 dogs (and 8 cats), all rescues. We actually do follow these 5 tips you presented. It is funny just how many “spaces” our dogs claim as their own! They each have a dog bed, but they also often prefer the couch or our bed. And oh my, do they love to play! 🙂

I love these tips! It’s so sad to me how many people don’t understand that dogs need all these things to live their healthiest lives. Also your pupper is precious!

What a beautiful dog. It is clear Bella is well cared for and adored. I didn’t know much about Purina before this. It seems like they are the best food brand for your dog, I love that they have special formulas for different types of dog.

Bella is darling! So fluffy and cute! These are great tips – I love the simple reminder that pups need stimulation and exercise to be happy and healthy. Usually, when my dog is acting a fool, it’s because he needs to get some energy out!
