I’m all for traveling, especially when it’s local and close by. If you’ve been following along on social media, in particular, Instagram, then you know I spent a few days at the beautiful luxury cottages at Rowena’s Inn.
Rowena’s Inn is nestled amongst the trees and sits along the river on a 160-acre waterfront estate. The Harrison situated hotel is an English-style manor that was converted into a beautiful boutique bed and breakfast in the Fraser Valley. Continue reading for my girls getaway weekend.
Getting there: We had the wonderful opportunity to test drive the 2017 Mini Cooper S Convertible. Not only was it a dream to drive, but it’s the cutest car out there. I haven’t been in a convertible in a while, so needless to say, I was stoked. We had the utmost best service possible at Open Road’s Mini Langley dealership. The staff were friendly, super accommodating (my sister actually has a Mini Cooper and was needing an oil change + cleaning, so instead of her having to drive downtown, Mini Langley performed both without any complaints!) I don’t have anything bad to say about both the dealership and the car, they were incredible. if you’re on the fence about whether to get a Mini Cooper, I would highly recommend it. It’s the perfect road trip vehicle because it’s small to maneuver, but big enough to store your road trip essentials. Plus, it’s got a great GPS system which came in handy for us considering we weren’t sure how to get to Rowena’s Inn. Road trip car, check.
Stay: Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a delicious cheese plate, some macarons (yes please) and our favourite white wine, Chaberton. We had the most stunning accommodations at our cottage, complete with a patio looking out onto a lagoon. The cottages are rustic chic, with real wood-burning fireplaces, heated-slate floors and deep-soaker jacuzzi tubs. It’s hard not to get into vacation mode right when you step in the door. Not only are the cottages beautiful, but the estate is breathtaking too. The inn and cottages are surrounded by trees and a spanning forest that gave me serious Snow White vibes. The Inn is framed by the rugged backdrop of the Cheam mountains, Sandpaper Golf Course and of course, the beautiful Harrison River. There’s also a pool that looks out onto the river and the mountains, it was hard not to spend all of our time soaking up the beautiful sunshine.
Savour: Fuel up on the way at Kilby Historic Site where you will be greeted with a working heritage farm, complete with you guessed it, cute farm animals. We had some lunch inside the restaurant and enjoyed listening to both the nature and the incredibly sweet staff. After lunch, we were given a tour of the 1920s-living historic site, featuring a 1906 general store museum, post office and the Manchester House Hotel. What a great way to start off the adventure. Refuel for dinner at the Clubhouse Restaurant which is conveniently located on the Inn’s property. Order the Salmon Bowl, you will not be disappointed, it’s easily one of the best salmon meals I’ve ever had. If you’re feeling extra Canadian, order a caesar. For breakfast, head back to the Clubhouse Restaurant and get the eggs benny, so good. (Breakfast is included with every stay, bonus!) PS. The coffee in Harrison is incredible (I drink mine black, so I can really taste the coffee bean). The next day, get a bite to eat at Muddy Waters Cafe which is in a prime location right by Harrison lake and located on the waterfront.
Delicious lunch at Kilby Historic Site.
Do: You can’t visit Harrison without having a little outdoor fun, especially in the summer. Take the car and drive to Cultus Lake for either a boat or sea-doo rental. We rented a boat and it was an amazing experience, not only is Cultus one of my favourite local lakes, but the staff at Cultus Lake Marina were incredibly accommodating, friendly and very helpful. This was the best rental experience yet because of how quick and easy the staff made it with renting and explaining how to drive a boat. We loved how easy they made everything seem and they were very helpful when it came to answering our (many) questions. Cultus Lake Marina should be on your summer bucket list for many reasons, and it’s the ultimate way to make sure you’ve had a summer for the books. I’ll be back because I’ve got my eyes on the sea-doos. PS. If you’re looking for a fun adventure on Harrison lake, check out Shoreline Tours where you can charter a boat along the lake’s West side. (Includes light commentary, and food and beverage options).
And there you have it. If you’re looking for somewhere to spend a relaxing girls’ getaway weekend, Rowena’s Inn should be on your list.
Thank you to everyone who made this experience so incredible. Rowena’s, I’ll be back!
