With the cold weather here, it’s time to make a change and put away your denim jacket and bring out your warmer pieces. Thankfully, this Bench jacket is warm and chic. Continue reading for my tips on how to find the right coat this fall.
Fit
The fit is super important because you don’t want to be donning your dresses in the cold, you need a coat that does double duty. This means your coat should obviously keep you warm but it should also be stylish enough to go with your outfits because sometimes your coat can make or break them. I’m quite picky when it comes to fit because I’m on the shorter side, so when a coat is too wide, it just doesn’t look good.
Length
You want a coat that’s long enough to cover a portion of your legs because when the wind strikes, it’s not fun. I also think longer coats look a bit chicer and you can definitely wear more with them.
Colour
Typically, I opt for neutrals when it comes to winter coats. I just know I’ll get so much more wear out of them. This coat in black is my favourite though (and my dog’s too). For some variety, I would also opt for grey, beige and cream.
Price
I would say you don’t have to be too frugal when purchasing coats. This is because (hopefully) they’ll last all season long and you will have gotten bang for your buck. This coat was about $189 but I found some other great picks below for a variety of price points.
And there you have it, 3 simple tips to finding the right coat for you this fall.

I definitely agree that you shouldn’t skimp too much on what you will spend when buying a winter coat – this is a classic case of ‘you get what you pay for,’ and if you want something warm enough you’re going to need something that is a good enough quality!
